Not On Fifth Street

From the Author:

Both my parents told me about living through the Great Depression, and I thought it was a great subject for a novel. Those years were disastrous for nearly everyone in the country, but I wanted to explore how it affected those who were already living hard lives even before the depression began.

I took the information I found and blended in some real-life history from my husband’s family to come up with the characters and story in EMPTY PLACES due to launch in the spring of 2016.

The Story

NOT ON FIFTH STREET is a fictional story loosely based on my father’s experiences in the record-breaking Ohio River flood of 1937. Two brothers in Ironton, Ohio, are at odds over a girl when the river begins to rise. The novel tells how they deal with the flood and their broken relationship.

The Ironton Tribune

The 1937 flood is a large part of the Lawrence County history books, and Ironton, Ohio was no exception. In January of 2018, the Ironton Tribune wrote an editorial about Not On Fifth Street’s accuracy, importance, and impact on local readers.
